British composer James Whitbourn has said that music has the power to create “pleasure, comfort, serenity, emotion, and sensuality.” In his setting of Anne Frank’s famous diary recounting her family’s capture and ensuing experience of the Holocaust, Whitbourn creates a commemorative work, as he notes, “not only for Anne Frank, but also for those by whose side she lived, those who she watched with penetrating eyes, and those voiceless millions who shared her fate.”
